Jerry Maier

Jerry L. Maier, 75, New Salem, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022 at Sanford Health in Bismarck.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 30th at Peace Church in New Salem, ND.  Visitation will be at 9:30 AM with the service following at 10:30 AM. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow at the City Auditorium in New Salem.

Jerry Lee Maier was born on May 23, 1946, to Herman and Hilda (Gaebe) Maier in the John Klusmann home in New Salem.  He attended grade school in Caribou Township through the 8th grade.  He then went to New Salem High School, where he graduated in 1964.

After graduation, Jerry took over the family farm and farmed his whole life until he retired and moved into New Salem.  He always enjoyed going downtown and visiting with whomever was around.  He was a member of the New Salem Jaycees for several years. He enjoyed camping with friends and family gatherings, always having good laughs.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Hilda Maier; stepmother, Frieda; his younger brother, William “Billy”; his nephew and godson, Darrin Schwagler, nephew Jerry Brewer; his goddaughter, Michelle Maier and special friend, Lorraine Schwinkendorf.

Jerry is survived by his sisters, Delores Maier, Fargo, ND, Shirley (Dave) Heil of Maple Valley, WA; nieces, Debby (Russ) Bubach, Fargo ND; Darla Brewer of Renton, WA and Jane Schwagler of Mandan, ND and nephews, Steven Heil and Jeff (Marion) Heil of WA, along with many cousins, and a special Aunt, Gloria Maier.

Memorials may be sent to the New Salem Ambulance Service or a memorial of their choice.
