Vlasta Wright, 89, Mandan, died May 17, 2011 at the Medcenter One Living Center, Mandan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 20 at First Presbyterian Church, Mandan with Reverend Vicky Rucker officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM Thursday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with a prayer service at 7 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Friday.
Vlasta was born in Sanger, ND on November 4, 1921 to James and Marie (Holemeyer) Folk. She was raised and educated near Center. A talented cook, she worked at various restaurants in the area, spending most of her career in the kitchen at Medcenter One Living Center in Mandan. She enjoyed her many working years. On June 24, 1939 Vlasta was united in marriage to George B. Wright in Mandan. They made their home near Center where they farmed and ranched. After George’s death Vlasta resided in Mandan. Vlasta loved animals, especially birds. She liked to crochet, embroider, and visit with family and friends. She liked to be spontaneous, often taking sudden road trips. She would pick a direction and see where it would take her. Her greatest passion was gardening. She had an unspoken connection to the earth and her garden was a part of her. She had a true gift for growing flowers and vegetables, taking great pride in canning her own vegetables. Vlasta was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Mandan. Left with fond memories are three daughters, Linda (Calvin) Niess and Vivian (Gary) Fisher, all of Mandan, and Nadine (Larry) Fisher, Driscoll; grandchildren, Jim Niess, Mandan, Joyce (Larry) McLellan, Fort Riley, KS, Sandy Schmidt and Wes Fisher, both of Mandan, Marie (Keith) Wagner, Driscoll, Peggy Fisher, Mandan, and Toby Fisher, Driscoll; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Vlasta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; an infant son; sister, Josephine; and brother, Charles.
