Vernon Timothy Foster, aged 72, passed away on January 29, 2026, in Bismarck, North Dakota. Born on December 22, 1953, in Mandan, North Dakota, he led a vibrant life marked by his service, adventures, and deep family connections.
Vernon proudly served in the US Army from 1972 to 1975, where he was a Clerk Typist & Transport Operator within the esteemed 82nd Airborne Division. His military tenure instilled in him a sense of discipline and adventure that he carried throughout his life. Post-military, Vernon embarked on a civilian career that included roles as a truck driver and a superintendent of a drywall company.
An intrepid adventurer at heart, Vernon's hobbies included scuba diving, sky diving, riding motorcycles, metal detecting, camping, and fishing. His love for thrill-seeking activities, storytelling, especially about his travels, and the old westerns and country music he adored were matched only by his passion for milk and Oreos, but a good caramel roll would work as well.
Vernon was a beloved family man, described by those who knew him as a dedicated grandpa, son, and sibling. He is survived by his siblings Debbie Leingang, Rhonda Carlson-Gonzalez, Mark Carlson, Rick, Billy, Buzzy Foster, and Barbara Strange; his sons Vernon R., Gerald, and Travis; and grandchildren Vernon D., Clancy, Harris, Kendall, Clayton, Roy, Warren, Evan Foster, and Izabelle Schultz. He was preceded in death by his father Vernon C. Foster, mother Bernice Berger, and sister Mary Ann Schmidt.
