Susan "Susie" Frances Crabill, 69, of Mandan, died of natural causes in Bismarck on December 24, 2025. Susie was known for her loving and generous personality, her sense of humor, and her love for animals -- especially dogs.
Susie was born in Washington, DC on February 10, 1956, to Harriet and Perry F. Crabill, Jr. In recent years, Susie really missed her mother and thought of her often.
Susie attended Bladensburg High School in Maryland before becoming a registered nurse. Susie's nursing career in Maryland was impressive and varied. She was known as an advocate for patients and families as well as a funny coworker. She ultimately retired from nursing to care for her father in Virginia. When he passed in 2018, she moved to North Dakota to be with her daughter and become "Grandma Susie" to her daughter's stepdaughters.
Susie was preceded in death by her mother, Harriet; father, Perry; brother, Peter; sister, Virginia; and two dogs, Daisy and Geneva.
Susie is survived by three siblings: two brothers, David and Richard; and a sister, Martha. Susie is also survived by her children, Elizabeth "Ellie" and Adam Shockley; Ellie's husband Matt and his children, Izabella and Brooklynn; and Adam's wife Anita and their children, Theodore and Franklin. Lastly, Susie is survived by two dogs, Novi and Missy.
Donations may be made in her honor to the Central Dakota Humane Society, https://centraldakotahumanesociety.ddock.gives/
A Celebration of Life for Susie will be held in Prince George's County, Maryland on April 25, 2026. Friends and family in North Dakota will also have a casual gathering in Mandan on Susie's birthday, February 10, 2026. Please contact eshockley@att.net for details regarding either gathering closer to the date.
