Peggy Mae (Lundstrom) Schafer, 83, passed away on June 1st, 2026, surrounded with love and by her family.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 7th, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home in Mandan, with a memorial service to be held at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home on Monday, June 8th, 2026 at 11:00 AM with visitation hour prior.  Burial will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Peggy was born to Ernest and Katie (Hersch) Lundstrom on April 21, 1943 in Mandan, ND. She was raised on their family farm in Flasher, worked in their family’s café, and graduated from Flasher High School. Peggy met Alfred Schafer, Flasher, and after an invitation to take her to “see something,” which ended up just being a haystack, they remained together. Peggy and Alfred were married on August 6, 1966 and together they raised three children, Candice, Melissa, and Kent, in Mandan. Peggy was a hard worker and dedicated employee, just recently retiring in March, 2026.

Peggy brought a one-of-a-kind presence to those she loved. She was a lady of class with a striking sense of humor. Peggy was generous, kind, glamorous, and a free spirit; to have known her was to love her. She enjoyed shopping, music, dancing, talking on the phone, a good burger, and spending time with her family and sisters.

Peggy is survived by her sisters, Janice McDowall and Debbie (Terry) Mildenberger; three children, Candice Stein, Melissa Rebenitsch (fiancé Jeremy Verworn) , and Kent Schafer; eight grandchildren, Kendra (Adrian) Brown, Tarri (Jesse) Haas, Amanda (Chris) Zeller, Josh Rebenitsch, Jaedyn (Nathan) Messer, Bailee Rebenitsch, Dylan Isaak, and Presley Fritz (Jesse Gange); five great-grandchildren, Kambri, Brandt, Rhett, Paislee, and Rori; puppy protectors, Maple and Fenrir; and numerous nieces, nephews, sisters- and brothers-in-law, and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Katie Lundstrom; husband, Alfred; father- and mother-in-law, Mike and Irene Schafer; brother-in-law- Marley McDowall; and nephew, Jeff McDowall.

The family requests that visitors wear Peggy’s favorite color, pink, for the memorial service.
