Marvin L. Hettich

Marvin Lee Hettich, 78, Solen, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at Sanford Health in Bismarck. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

Marvin was born January 29, 1947 to Paul and Helen (Dutton) Hettich in Mobridge, SD. He attended school in both McLaughlin, SD and Solen, ND where he graduated high school. Marvin worked for Nelson Dairy and later many road construction jobs for Northern Improvement, Shimcat and lastly for Sioux County. In 2002, he retired due to health concerns. He also owned the grocery store and the butcher shop in Solen, from 1977-1990. He later worked part time for Chuck Henderson and his brother Larry Hettich until he broke his leg in 2019. Marvin always enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. But his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, son, Mark (Lyn), daughter, Cheryl, grandchildren, Mark Colton, Amber Jorilyn, and great-grandchildren, Tanner, Rigs, and Austyn; sisters, Paula (Lonnie) Schwartz and Yvonne (Kent) Stave and brother, Farron (Marcia) Hettich along with many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his lifelong friends, Doran Stoltz, Simon Hoffman and Mike Sandland.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen, brothers, Arlan, Terry and Larry, sister, Evelyn and great-grandson, Mark Austan.
