Mandan

Martin E. Wright, 97, Mandan, formerly of Flasher, passed away, Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Edgewood Care Center in Mandan. Memorial service will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 9 with Pastor Bethany Haberstroh officiating at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home in Mandan. Burial will follow at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 8 from 5-7 PM at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service.

Martin was born October 16, 1927, in Grant County, ND to Estel and Gunhild (Sakrison) Wright. He was raised north of Flasher and graduated from Flasher High School before enlisting in the Army and serving during the Korean War.

Mart was 60+ year member of the Flasher American Legion and was proud of anyone who served. Over the years he enjoyed bowling, playing whist, snowmobiling with friends and racing. He would also venture to the neighbors and “check their furnace”, go on fishing trips to Canada and make an occasional trip to PKC. Deer season was a highlight for him, participating and enjoying all the family that gathered for the two-week season in November. Countless games of checkers were played too with his grandchildren and great grandchildren where they found him hard to beat. The farm door was always open and his “furnace was checked” by friends and relatives too.

On September 19, 1951, Martin married Josephine Novotny in Flasher, ND and the two shared nearly 67 years together. They started their home after Martin’s discharge from the Army and resided on Jo’s family farm, south of Judson. They worked together for 46 years and raised their family of five before moving into Flasher the fall of 1997. Martin never lost his love for the land or his cattle. His hobby was his farm and ranch work and he could fix just about anything. He had a passion for his H, Super MTA, 4020’s and Gleaner combines. Harvest was always a special time when lining up the Gleaners to bring in the crop. Countless hours were also spent chopping corn and packing silage. He had no patience for a slow truck driver or someone that couldn’t drive straight while cultivating. After moving to Flasher, he faithfully made daily trips to the farms and found himself engaged in the daily activities. Up until the fall of 2023, you could still find him taking minerals to the various pastures and checking on the livestock.

Martin shared his 97 years with many and it has been said that he helped shape the lives of nephews and nieces during their summers spent “on the farm”. They too found out that there was always one way to do things, and it was his way.

Martin is survived by his children: Ron (Patricia), Iris (Gary), Lori (Rob), Nola (Mark) & daughter-in-law Mary; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Josephine; son, Todd; sister, Mary; brothers, Marvin “Robert”, Merrel Dean, John & Francis.

Special thanks go out to the Staff at Mandan Edgewood Assisted Living Facility, Legacy Medical, Caring Edge Home Health & Hospice. Your care and concern was phenomenal.
