Mark Kottsick

Nov 29, 1970 — Jun 17, 2026

Bismarck

Mark Kottsick, 55, of Bismarck, passed away on June 17, 2026.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.

Mark was born on November 29, 1970, to Eugene and Edna (Schmidt) Kottsick. Raised in Mandan, he graduated from Mandan High School in 1989 before answering the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Service was more than a chapter in Mark’s life—it was part of who he was. Throughout the years, he proudly served in both the U.S. Army and the North Dakota National Guard, including deployment during the Global War on Terrorism with the 101st Airborne Division, where his work repairing medevac helicopters helped support and protect fellow service members.

When he wasn’t serving his country, Mark spent time as an over the road truck driver, embracing the hard work and independence that suited him well. Most recently, he worked at Kist Livestock, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his coworkers and took pride in being part of the team.

Mark found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He dearly loved his dachshunds, Sammy and Shilo, whose companionship brought him comfort and joy. But nothing meant more to him than his family, especially his grandsons. Whether sharing stories, laughter, or simply spending time together, Sawyer and Teagen brought a special light to his life. Being their grandpa was one of his greatest blessings and proudest roles.

Those who knew Mark will remember a man who was hardworking, loyal, and quietly devoted to the people he loved. He carried a strong sense of duty, a generous heart, and an appreciation for family that never wavered. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the love he shared will remain with those who knew him.

Mark is survived by his sons, Dakota (Kelci) Kottsick and Darrick Kottsick; his beloved grandsons, Sawyer and Teagen Kottsick; sister, Sherri (Brett) Peiler; brother, Bud (Cindy) Kottsick; and special friend, Roberta Backer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Edna Kottsick.

Though his journey here has ended, Mark’s legacy of service, dedication, and love for his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
