Leanor Wright, 89, formerly of Flasher, died June 30, 2014 at Sakakawea Medical Center in Hazen.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm CST on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with Reverend Dale Carmen officiating. Burial will be at Fairhill Cemetery, Flasher. Cremation has taken place and the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Leanor was born August 5, 1924 in Otter Creek Township in Grant County, ND, the daughter of Arthur Sr. and Alma (Johnson) Weekes. She was educated in the Otter Creek Country School and graduated from Almont High School. On June 3, 1944 she married Oliver E. Wright at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck. Together they farmed and ranched northwest of Flasher until moving into Flasher in 1993. Leanor taught school, drove school bus, sold Tupperware, and was a waitress at Meyer’s Café, where she was also the manager for some time. Leanor was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Flasher where she served as a council member, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher for many years, and was a member of WELCA. She was a member of the Flasher and Morton County Historical Societies and was the sexton of the Fairhill Cemetery. Oliver passed away on August 5, 1997. A beloved mother and grandmother, the memories of Leanor will forever be cherished and her favorite saying, “Never place a period where God has placed a comma”, will always be remembered.
Blessed to have shared her life are three children, Connie (Clifford) Rossow, Flasher, Sandra Kukla, Olympia, WA, and Everett (Loretta) Wright, Beulah; 8 grandchildren, Brent (Heather) Kukla, Carmen (Mark) Larson, LeAnn (Chris) Hatzenbuhler, Lacey Rossow, Jennifer (Mark) Murray, Shana (Greg) Zahn, and Johnny and Amy McCray; 13 great grandchildren, Bergin Grace Larson; Maxwell Oliver, William Johnson, and Jack Michael Kukla; Michael Christopher, Garrett Lee, Braxton James, and Brayden Carl Hatzenbuhler; Ty Murray; Dylan and Damon Zahn and Austin and Leah Chapman; one brother, Arthur Weekes, Carson; two sisters-in-laws, Bonnie Weekes, Port Angeles, WA and Florence Weekes, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.
Leanor was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1997; four brothers, Alvin, Anton, Gordon, and Norman Weekes; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Helena Weekes; and infant brother, John.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Sakakawea Medical Center in Hazen or American Lutheran Church in Flasher.
