Karen Tschida, 68, Mandan, died February 7, 2014 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, after a nearly yearlong battle with leukemia with loving family by her side.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. Cremation has taken place and the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Martin’s Cemetery in Huff, ND at a later date.
Karen was born August 7, 1945 at the Withnal home in Mandan to Urban and Agnes (Johnson) Krug. In her early years she lived in Carson for two years with her family and rode horse with her sisters to a one room school house. Her family returned to Mandan where she attended school. On February 26, 1963, Karen married Daniel Tschida at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan. Karen worked at St. Alexius Hospital as an aide and ward clerk before becoming a stay at home mom. Raising a family was her true purpose in life. In the early 1990’s Karen and Dan bought a cattle ranch near Solen and she later worked at Prairie Knights Casino as her children got older.
Karen loved spending time in her kitchen cooking and baking for those she loved. Playing cards around the table with her family was one of her favorite things to do in this world. She would wake up early and stay up late to play games, talk, and tell stories, as she had a great sense of humor. Karen, or “Little Grandma,” as her grandsons called her, was thrilled to have grandsons to watch Disney movies with and for the special memory of the time they shared morning coffee.
Karen will be deeply missed by her loving sons, Jeffery and Andrew, Mandan and Thomas (Brittany), Horace, ND; grandsons, Bennet and Caleb; mother, Agnes Bristol, Bismarck; sisters, Marcene Jones, Bismarck, Alice (Steve) Genz, Porter, TX, Virginia Miller, Mandan, Kathy (John) Trowbridge, Winnipeg, MB; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel in November 2012; her father; and her maternal grandparents, George and Eva Johnson.
