John R. Lippert, 64, Mandan, passed away on October 19, 2011 at Medcenter One Hospital, Bismarck. His family surrounded him with their love and strength in the hours before his death.
A memorial service will be held in celebration John's life at 11:00 am on Monday, October 24, 2011 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 23 from 4 to 8 pm with a prayer service at 7pm at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. Together, his family will lay him to rest at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Mandan VFW Post 707 and American Legion Post 40.
John was born September 6, 1947 in Bismarck, the son of Leonard and Wilma (Blaskowsky) Lippert. Raised and educated in Steele, he graduated from Steele High School. During high school, John loved to pitch in the game of baseball. In 1966, John and his teammates won the state baseball title for the Steele Legion, where he pitched an incredible game. Following high school, John was drafted in the service and became a proud Marine. He was awarded the Purple Heart for combat during Vietnam. John married Carol Leiss on February 28, 1997. Together they owned and operated The Ridge Motel in Mandan. John was an avid goose and duck hunter and always enjoyed socializing with his family and friends.
John is survived by his loving wife Carol, Mandan; children, Kristi (Troy) White, Barnsville, MN, Kari (Craig) Thomas, Bismarck, Donald "DJ" Lippert (special friend, Cari), Bismarck, Patsy (Craig) Hlibichuk, Bismarck, and Kim (Jason) Balliet, Dickinson; grandchildren, Victoria and Avery White, Isaiah Younger, Mya Thomas, Kaylee Gentz, Colin and Ava Lippert, Jay Herauf, Devon, Kaylee, and Sabrina Hlibichuk, and Paige and Jake Balliet; 1 great grandchild, Christian Hlibichuk; sister, Diana (Keith) Wick, Nebraska; many nephews and nieces; numerous sister and brother-in-laws; and many special friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Diane Pletan; and his special companion, Chubby.
