Jean Lorraine Schlender, a resident of Mandan, North Dakota, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023, at the age of 83, at Edgewood Vista in Mandan, ND.

Born on December 6, 1939, in Huron, South Dakota, Jean Lorraine Schlender was the beloved daughter of James and Alma (Ettie Johnson) Schlender. She grew up on a small farm, one of seven children, and received her education in Erwin, SD. In 1957, she graduated from high school, and after a year of junior college, she relocated to the Bismarck-Mandan area, where she established her lifelong home. Dedicated to her pursuit of knowledge, Jean furthered her education at Mary College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1982.

For over two decades, Jean contributed her talents to the Department of Transportation, skillfully drafting blueprints and drawings that showcased the beauty of North Dakota. Her dedication to self-improvement led her to return to school,  here she obtained her college diploma. Jean’s life was enriched by her love for literature, flowers, and the joyous moments spent with cherished friends and family. A devoted member of the First Lutheran Church in Mandan for many years, she found solace and community within its walls. Jean possessed an avid passion for sports and regularly attended high school basketball games on Friday nights, while reserving her Sundays for cheering on the Vikings.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, two brothers, and four sisters, and is survived by nine nieces and nephews.

May the legacy of Jean Lorraine Schlender’s vibrant life continue to inspire and bring comfort to all those who knew and loved her.
