Jean Paul, 100, of Mandan, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025, in New Salem.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, 1701 Sunset Drive, Mandan. Burial will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Jean was born March 29, 1925 in Fort Rice, ND. She was raised and educated in Mandan. In 1943, she and her family moved to Forsyth, Montana. It was there, in 1945, that she met another Mandan native, George S. Paul, who would become the love of her life. The two married in May of 1948.
In 1957, Jean and George returned to Mandan to take over the family business, Nick's Lounge, which they owned and operated for more than 30 years. Life as small business owners kept them busy-short vacations and long hours-but it was a labor of love that helped shape their family. After retiring, Jean and George enjoyed traveling and fishing.
Jean had many simple joys. She loved to crochet, creating many doilies and tiny Barbie clothes for Sheila's dolls, and she had a knack for keeping houseplants happy. She enjoyed shopping trips with her daughter and visits to the casino-a favorite pastime she kept up regularly until Covid slowed her down.
She is survived by her children, Brian (Cammie) Paul and Sheila (Randy) Messer; 22 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, George; two sons, George Jr. and Jerry; and her six brothers and six sisters.
