Hilbert was born August 26, 1927 in Oliver County on the family farmstead northwest of Hannover, son of Henry Herman and Emma (Rabe) Bargmann. He was blessed to have lived his entire life on the farm where he was born. Hilbert attended a one room school house, north of the farm, through the seventh grade and St. Peter’s Lutheran School for eighth grade. He farmed and ranched with his brother, Albert, and later with his nephews. His greatest pride and joy was his herd of Hereford cattle which were known to be some of the finest grass-fed beef in western North Dakota. Hilbert enjoyed driving the pastures to check cattle and the land and attending bull sales. He liked visiting with friends and relatives and also bowling and playing cards. Hilbert was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and was baptized on September 25, 1927 and confirmed on April 6, 1941.
Hilbert will be missed by his sister, Caroline (Ted) Letzring, Alta, IA; sister-in-law, Margaret Bargmann, New Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hilbert was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Eleanora (Emil) Reiner, Louise (Wilfred) Fleischer, Alma and Lorna Bargmann; brothers, Albert (Enid) Bargmann and William Bargmann; and nephews, Willard, Glenn, and Marvin Reiner and Gilbert Bargmann.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to The Lutheran Hour, Sakakawea Medical Center, or World Hunger in memory of Hilbert.
