Frances was born November 17, 1921 in New Salem to George and Lillian (Hagerman) Gappert. She attended New Salem schools. Frances married George Klingenstein in Medora on July 4, 1941. They made their home on a farm north of New Salem where they shared 10 years together until his death in 1951. Frances met Richard P. Windhorst and they were married December 3, 1952. They lived on the farm north of New Salem working side by side until his death in 1978. Frances continued living on the farm until 2011 when she moved to town to live with her daughter, Carol. In March 2014 Frances moved to St. Vincent’s Care Center.
Frances was a faithful and hardworking wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved the farm, animals, and the hard work of being a farmer’s wife. There was no other place she desired to be or live. She taught her strong work ethic to each of her children. Frances loved listening to gospel and country music. A talented green thumb, she loved to garden and was an excellent cook. A kid at heart when it came to the holidays, Frances loved decorating, especially for Halloween. Holidays when the family gathered for good times and great food were very special to Frances. A dedicated Christian and giving of her time, Frances was a Sunday school teacher at the Hannover Lutheran Church for many years. She shared her faith in God and looked to Him for strength. Most important to her was knowing Jesus’ love and looking forward to her heavenly home. A wonderful and precious mother and grandmother, Frances will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Blessed to have shared her life are her children, Ken (Leslie) Klingenstein, Casselton, ND, Karen (Darrell) Anderson, Bolivia, NC, Keith (Kim) Klingenstein, Beltsville, MD, Kal (Beth) Klingenstein, Bismarck, Glen Windhorst, New Salem, Jean (Bill) Gottbreht, Irvine, CA, and Carol Klingenstein, New Salem; 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and one sister and brother, Iris Seeger and Richard Gappert.
