Frances Rusch

Frances Rusch, 86, New Salem, died May 10, 2015 at Sanford Health, Bismarck with her daughters by her side.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 15, 2015 at Peace Church, New Salem. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at Peace Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 am on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem, and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Frances was born March 1, 1929 to Lawrence and Grace (Jacobsen) Nelson. She graduated from Almont High School and then attended Dickinson State Teachers College. Frances met her future husband, Willard “Rusty” Rusch, at a basketball game in Almont. They dated until Rusty went into the Army and through those years. They were married on November 15, 1952 after he came home from the service. Frances and Rusty made their home in New Salem where they spent their entire lives and were blessed with four daughters. A kind and giving woman, Frances was a wonderful mother and teacher. She later loved working in the activities department at Elm Crest Manor for over 25 years. Frances was a very artistic lady, she enjoyed painting, writing, reading, and singing. Francy loved following politics and her favorite sports teams on TV. She also loved animals and welcomed them into her home. Every year, Frances took a trip with her four daughters. They did this for 15 years and visited 15 different cities. Both Frances and her daughters looked forward to these trips.

Blessed to have shared her life are four daughters, Joan (Dave) Turner, Henderson, NV, Susan Rusch (Wayne Nelson) Moorhead, MN, Linda (Ted) Hoffman, Bismarck, and JJ McCowan, Manhattan, KS; three grandchildren, Talus McCowan, Ali Hoffman, and Jacob Hoffman; two sisters, Margie Peterson, Elm Crest Manor and Audrey Olson, Williston; two sister-in-laws, Louise Nelson, Arlington, TX and Arlene Rusch, New Salem; and countless friends. A beloved mother and grandmother, she will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1996; and a brother, John Burton Nelson.
