Fern Tellmann

July 21, 1920 — July 22, 2017

Fern (Ganske) Tellmann, 97, New Salem, died July 22, 2017, at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. CST, Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Peace Church with John Lynch officiating. Burial will be at the Peace Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. CST, Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at the Elm Crest Manor Chapel, followed by a prayer service open to friends of the family. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at Peace Church on Wednesday.

On July 21, 1920, Fern was the second child born to Julius and Pauline (Erberle) Ganske, Hazen. She grew up with her seven brothers and sisters on the farm and was educated in the Hazen/Stanton area.

In 1942, Fern went to Everett, Washington, to do defense work. For three years she worked for the Everett Pacific Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company where she was a welder in the construction of ships for the Navy.

On December 2, 1947, she married William Tellmann in Hazen. They worked together and raised their children on the third-generation dairy farm north of New Salem. Fern taught many grandchildren and great grandchildren how to feed calves, leaving them special memories of “doing chores” with grandma.

She was an active member of Peace Church where she belonged to the Women’s Guild.

Fern is survived by her daughters, Diane (Larry) Freise, New Salem, Patricia (David) McGeary, Bismarck, and Lynne (Justin) Jacobs, Ardmore, OK; one son, Allan (Debbie) Tellmann, New Salem; her brother, Herbert (Marie) Ganske, Casa Grande, AZ; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and her special friends at Elm Crest Manor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William; her sisters, Lillian Holle, Violet Wallin, and Joy Fritz; and her brothers, Palmer, Archie, and Kenneth Ganske.
