Emily Upham, 94, Mandan, died November 12, 2011 at Medcenter One Hospital, Bismarck. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with Reverend Lee Herberg officiating. Burial will be at Fairhill Cemetery in Flasher at 4:00 pm.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Emily was born November 25, 1916 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, to Jacob and Marie (Bauer) Wolfe. She attended schools in Minnesota and Shields, ND. On February 25, 1937 Emily married Eugene Upham in McIntosh, SD. They lived in Shields until 1951 when they moved to Flasher where she worked as a Postal Clerk for 23 years. Eugene died August 28, 1980. In 1987, Emily moved to Mandan where she was active with several organizations. She was a member of the Eagles, Moose, Miriam Circle, Golden Age Advisory Board, and RSVP. Emily enjoyed traveling and took many bus tour trips. She loved bowling, dancing, doing volunteer work, and playing cards, especially Bunco and Pinochle. She was a loving and caring woman whose children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren were most dear to her.
Survivors include one son, Lee (Evelyn) Upham, Lakewood, CO; two daughters, Judy (Gerald) Whiteman, St. Cloud, MN, Sharon (Arnold) Meyer, Mandan; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; sister, Emma Haider, Mandan; brothers, Guff Wolfe, Sheboygan, WI and Henry Wolfe, Racine, WI; and sisters-in-law, Gladys Morgen and Betty Wolfe, both of Mandan.
Emily was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene; daughter, Deloris Wright; son, Wayne Upham; sister, Marie Herzog; brothers, Alex and John Wolfe; and a brother-in-law, Tony Haider. The family wants to give special thanks to Medcenter One Dialysis staff and Primrose Retirement Home staff for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the donor’s choice in memory of Emily.
