Eleanor Kottsick

May 17, 1923 — June 5, 2017

Eleanor Kottsick, 94, Mandan, died peacefully on June 5, 2017 at Sunset Drive a Prospera Community, surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at First Lutheran Church, Mandan. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with a prayer service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Eleanor was born May 17, 1923 in Mandan, the daughter of William and Marie (Mernitz) Friedrich. She was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School in 1941. On June 8, 1943 she married Charles Kottsick at First Lutheran Church in Mandan. They made their home on the farm south of Mandan where they milked cows and raised poultry. Retiring from farming in 1979, they moved in to town where Eleanor provided daycare for many special children. Generous and giving of her time, Eleanor worked and volunteered at the Mandan Eagles where she was a member for 49 years and held several offices. She was also a longtime member of the Moose Auxiliary, ZCBJ Lodge, and First Lutheran Church. Eleanor loved playing games and cards with family and friends and also going to Prairie Knights Casino. A talented green thumb, Eleanor enjoyed growing a large vegetable garden and canning or selling the produce each year. Eleanor was diligent about sending birthday and anniversary wishes to KBMR where many ice cream cakes were won and enjoyed. A kind and treasured woman, Eleanor will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Blessed to have shared her life are her children, Eugene (Edna) Kottsick, Mandan, Marlene (Jack) Pulkrabek, Mandan, Josephine (Henry) Kalvoda, Thornton, CO, Kathy (Steve) Brown, Apache Junction, AZ, Charles (MJ) Kottsick, Mandan, James Kottsick, Mandan, and Davy (Kathy) Kottsick, Mandan; 22 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren; one sister, Elda Charvat, Mandan; and many nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 1984; her parents; an infant brother; sister, Gladys (Bill) Pope; daughter-in-law, Marilyn (Hille) Kottsick; grandchildren, Lee Kottsick, Kristie Kottsick, and Emma St. Peter; and brother-in-law, John Charvat.
