Duane was born on September 20, 1932, to Fred and Caroline (Henke) Bueligen. He was baptized on November 6, 1932, and confirmed on April 14, 1946, at St Peter Lutheran Church in Hannover, where he was a dedicated member his entire life. He attended parochial school in Hannover and attended BJC carpentry classes.

He married his grade school sweetheart, Millie Henke, on June 28, 1954, in Hannover, and they were blessed with over 62 years of marriage and five children.
Duane worked at farming and carpentry his entire life. He started his side occupation of carpentry in 1963 after a severe hailstorm destroyed the season's crop. He worked on many building projects in the community over the years and was known for his integrity and precision. His family treasures the woodworking gifts he made for them. He also made many woodworking objects that he donated to the church that are still in service today.

Duane served his church and community in many different ways, including serving as a director on the New Salem School Board, the New Salem Rural Fire District, Oliver County Water Resources, Gambles - Farmers Union Lumber, and the Southwest Water Authority where he served 23 years and recently received the Water Wheel Award. He served at St. Peter Lutheran Church as an elder, chairman, secretary, Sunday School and Bible Class teacher, and he sang in the church and community choir for many years.

Duane's faith in his Lord and his family were the most important part of his life. One of his favorite joys was going to his grandchildren's football, volleyball, and basketball games.

Blessed to have shared his life are his wife, Millie, New Salem; children, Debra (Allan) Tellmann, New Salem; Ruth (Mike) Eggers, New Salem; Daniel (Deborah) Bueligen, New Salem; Sara (Darcy) Rosendahl, Bismarck; Beth (Kenton) Kruger, New Salem; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one brother, Leonard Bueligen, Grand Forks.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Seth Erik Rosendahl.
