Dorothy Kottsick

Dorothy Kottsick, 90, Mandan, died January 1, 2024, at her home. 

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, January 8, 2024, at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with Rev. Phil Leer officiating.  Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held from 2-4 PM on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. 

Dorothy was born March 16, 1933, at her family home southwest of Mandan, to Louis and Sylvia (Bures) Svihla.  She attended country school and later became a teacher herself.  She then worked numerous retail and bookkeeping jobs throughout the years.  On June 19, 1954, she married Robert Kottsick and they made their home and raised their family in Mandan.  Dorothy was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and liked going to football and baseball games.  She enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii and Alaska, and even short trips to the casino.  Dorothy loved spending time outdoors, fishing, and camping. 

Blessed to have shared in her life is her son, Roger (Krista) Kottsick; daughter-in-law, Deb Kottsick, six grandchildren, Chris Kottsick (Alyssa Gilbery), Kevin (Rachel) Kottsick, Jason (Summer) Kottsick, Ashley (Derick) Klug, Aiden Kottsick, Colin Cahill (Janie Wilson); and eight great grandchildren, Caitlin, Lana, Cal and Chloe Kottsick, Ayven and Tamsin Kottsick, and Elijah and Ella Klug; two sisters-in-law, Rosalie Svihla and Sandy Svihla; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert, in 2017; son, Randy Kottsick; daughter, Glenda Kottsick; her parents; four brothers, Ervin, Glen, James (Ernestine), and Elgie Svihla.
