David Lloyd Just, 55, of New Salem, ND died peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 17, 2011. Cremation has taken place and family and close friends will gather at Peace Cemetery in New Salem on Friday, July 29 to bury his remains. No reception is planned.
David was born March 1, 1956 in Bismarck and attended New Salem Public schools through 9th grade and later earned his General Education Diploma. He lived with his parents until his father’s death in 2005, when he moved to his own residence at 301 Spruce Ave. While living on 6th Street, Dave made candle-stick holders, salt and pepper shakers, lazy susans of all sizes, and other items with his wood lathe. He showed his wood working skills when he made a clock for his father using wood Lloyd acquired on vacation to the Redwood forest. Other clocks were made using coins from his dad‘s coin collection. Picture frames, decorative boxes, and two China cabinets are also his accomplishments.
Dave loved to fish and went on many camping trips to lakes and rivers accompanied by friends and his pet dog at the time. An avid music lover, he had a large collection of albums “from the day”. He recently was re-recording many of them onto CDs so he could listen to them on today’s modern equipment. Dave had just gotten a new lap top computer and had several other electronic gadgets. He loved to watch Major League Baseball and the National Football League games. This year Dave hosted the family to his home cooked Easter dinner and his sugar-free cookies were a hit at Christmas time.
He is survived by his mother, Viola Just, New Salem; brother, Alan (Janice) Just, Terry, MT; niece, Dana (Tom) Lamb, and their daughter, Payton, Buffalo, NY; nephew, Brad Just, and his children, Mollie and James, Dickinson, ND; cousins, Roberta (Larry) Weninger, Laurel, MT, Douglas (Angie) Just, Billings, MT, Marla (John) Conners, Belgrade, MT, Wayne Just, Rochester, MN, Stacey nee Just, Bismarck, ND, Amy Just, Dillon, MT, Michael Grofik, FL, Wayne Grofik, NY. Just this summer Dave met cousins Terry (Connie) and Jeff Knutson and several other Knutson and Schardin cousins he had not met from Minneapolis, MN.
David was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents; his father, Lloyd Just; and best friends, Sparky, Fred-aka-Jasper, and his beloved Angel.
