Daniel was born April 24, 1939 in New Salem to Nick and Elda (Beusen) Kautzman. Raised and educated in New Salem, he graduated in 1958. Dan enjoyed sports and excelled at football and basketball. He enlisted in the US Army and was proud to earn the honor of being a sharpshooter. He was medically discharged after basic training. Dan was married to Patricia Hulm. A dedicated and hardworking man, Dan worked for Peavey Lumber for 17 years and drove milk truck for Jim Kautzman for 20 years. His true passion was working with his brother, Doug, on his farm. He especially liked making hay. Dan was very proud of his younger brother’s farm and beautiful family and was happy to help out when he could. His greatest pleasure was being around his nieces and nephews, whether he was trying to keep them in line, take them fishing, or just spending time together. A wonderful jokester and storyteller, Dan was often the center of attention. He also won several trophies for playing pool. He loved family gatherings, and enjoyed his sister-in-law, Marty’s, cooking for many years, and he was always willing to do the dishes. Dan will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Blessed to have shared his life is his brother, Doug Kautzman, New Salem; sister, DoLonnes (Roy) Klaudt, Glendive, MT; nephews and nieces, Virgil (Morgan) Kautzman, Michael Kautzman, Matthew Kautzman, Melissa Burghart (fiancée, Jeff Kaul), Nicole (Jim) Froelich, Georgiann (Nick) Hersch, and Elizabeth (Jacob) Gappert and their families; brother-in-law, Paul Rankin, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
