Charlotte (Oleson)(Boyden)(Schumacher) Matthiesen, 75, Bismarck, died March 28, 2012 at Medcenter One Hospital, Bismarck with her beloved family by her side.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Evangel Assembly of God, Bismarck, with Reverend Doug Graham and Reverend Roger Will officiating. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at a later date at Graceland Cemetery in New Salem, ND. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. The family invites you for lunch and a time of sharing following the celebration of her life at the church reception hall.
Charlotte was born August 25, 1936 in Geddes, SD at the home of her parents, Charles and Evelyn (Belknap) Oleson. She was baptized into the Christian faith at the United Methodist Church in Geddes. Charlotte attended Geddes High School where she played softball. In 1952 she married Oscar Boyden and they farmed near Academy, SD for nearly 20 years. She taught Sunday school and bible school at the Congregational Church in Academy for 20 years. In 1970 Charlotte started D & D Marina near the Platte Winner Bridge and ran the business for 3 years. From 1974-75 she managed bowling allies in Lemon, SD and Flasher, ND. Moving to Bismarck, she was married to Leo Schumacher for 9 years. In 1976 Charlotte was proud to receive her GED and became a registered nurse in 1979. She worked at the Bismarck Hospital and then Medcenter One for 20 years where she was a travel nurse for 7 years. After travel nursing she returned to Medcenter One part time until she retired in 2010 at age 74. In 1984 Charlotte married Gordon Matthiesen in Bismarck. Generous and giving of her time, Charlotte enjoyed volunteer work which included 7 years in Medora for 1 week each year, lawn and flower work at Tracy's Sanctuary House, and projects with the United Way and Evangel Assembly. Above all, family was her greatest love and she enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Blessed to have shared her life is her husband, Gordon Matthiesen, Bismarck; two sons, Douglas (Pamela) Boyden, Sioux Falls, SD and Paul (Rachel)Schumacher, Lincoln, ND; seven grandchildren, Bridget (Chad) Myers and Brian (Kennedy) Boyden, all of Sioux Falls, SD, Kristina Boyden, Longmont, CO, and Riley, Carson, Rachel Ann, and McKennah Schumacher, all of Lincoln, ND; six great grandchildren, Bethanee Boyden, Caleb, Noah, and Isaac Myers, and Gracelyn and Sienna Boyden; four sisters, Doris Miley, Lyons, OR, Joyce White-Shanks, Texas City, TX, Linda (John) Vasek, Geddes, SD, and Crystal (Sheldon) Weatherford, Sun City, AZ; four brothers, Dale Oleson, Yountville, CA, David (Janice) Oleson, Rapid City, SD, Duane Oleson, Tucson, AZ, and Leslie (Joanne) Oleson, Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Barbara Oleson, Stanton, NE; and many nieces and nephews, friends, and coworkers.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dennis Boyden; grandson, Thomas Douglas Boyden; sister, Violet Oleson; brother, Vernon Oleson; and brothers-in-law, Bud Miley, Bob White, and Charles Shanks.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Evangel Assembly Missionaries.
