Mand

Calvin “Cal” McAfee, 90, of Mandan, ND entered fully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on May 2nd, 2025.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Engage Church, 4209 Old Red Trail, Mandan, with Pastor Chip Garrison officiating. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to the service, and a lunch will be provided following the service. The interment service will be held at North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery on Monday, May 12, at 10 a.m.

Calvin was born May 16, 1934, in Carrington, ND to Lyle and Esther (Chadwick) McAfee. He and Diane Pedersen were married in Kensal, ND in 1961. Their lives were blessed with four children: Dale, Susan, Glen, and Timothy.

Cal attended grade school in Melville and Edmunds and high school in Carrington. After farming with his dad, Cal joined the USAF, served from March 1953 - Jan 1, 1957. In 1959 he graduated from Northrop Aeronautical Institute in Inglewood, CA as a licensed A&P mechanic. He bought and operated Central Aviation, Carrington, ND; additionally, he worked for DEC Aviation in Madison, WI; Capital Aviation in Bismarck, ND; and Black Hills Aviation in Spearfish, SD. In 1970 he graduated from State School of Science in Wahpeton with an associate degree in electronics. He began work with Minnkota Power Cooperative in Center, ND in instrument and control systems maintenance. He retired in 1996.

In 1972, an evangelist challenged Cal to go on a short-term mission trip with a team to help build a place for street orphans in Bogota, Columbia, SA. Cal accepted that challenge, and the love of Jesus, the mission’s team, and the orphans of Bogota broke his heart. That mission’s trip, in combination with the love of God at work in Cal’s heart through Jesus Christ, changed his life. Several mission trips to South America, Central America, and Haiti followed over the years.

He had good memories of family camping and helping with projects at Cross Roads Range and Mt. Carmel family camps. He was involved in prison Bible studies, Kogudus Ministry weekend prison retreats, and Freedom Prison Ministries for many years. He always looked forward to spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Diane; 4 children, Dale (Lisa) McAfee of Fairfield, OH, Susan (Brad) Klassen of Rapid City, SD, Glen (Karen Joy) McAfee of Pine Island, MN, & Timothy (Katie) McAfee of Mandan, ND; brother-in-law, Duane (Marlys) Mullenberg; 13 grandchildren, Ian, Malcolm(Chelsie) McAfee, Kurt(Stephanie), Robert, Chariti, Carson Klassen, Hollis(John) Wunderlich, Camden(Kaylin), Aria, Bethany McAfee, Micah, Lucas, & Elise McAfee; 11 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Esther, stepfather Eldon Laughlin, sister Marlys Mullenberg, brother Wayne McAfee, & nephew John Mullenberg.
