Beatrice “Toddy” Johnson, 95, Center, died August 3, 2011 at St. Vincent’s Care Center, Bismarck. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Center United Methodist Church in Center with Reverend Peter Anderson officiating. Burial will be at the Center Community Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2: 30 pm on Friday at St. Vincent’s Care Center in Bismarck and from 5 – 8 pm at the church in Center. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Beatrice was born October 21, 1915 in Hannover, ND to Herman and Myrtle (Potter) Barchenger. She graduated from Center High School and on March 17, 1934 married Kenneth Johnson in Mandan. They lived on the Johnson farmstead in Oliver County where they farmed and ranched. Beatrice attended Christy’s Beauty School and later managed and operated Klein’s Beauty Shop in Center for many years. Beatrice loved flowers and knitting sweaters. She especially enjoyed reading. Active in her community, Beatrice was a charter member of the Oliver County Historical Society and a member of the Homemakers Club and Golden Age Club of Center.
Left with fond memories are two daughters, Jacquelyn Schulte, Center and Judith (William) Joyce, Noonan, ND; one son, David (Linda) Johnson, Center; 11 grandchildren, Teri Schulte, Jannine Meier, Jim (Ruth) Joyce, Pat (Pam) Joyce, Bridget (Harlan) Johnson, Renae (Keith) Brown, Sheila Joyce, Brendan (Loralyn) Joyce, Brad (Becky) Johnson, Mike (Terri) Johnson, and Marie (Ken) Hamilton; 24 great grandchildren; sister, Goldie Roe, CA; brother, Bill Barchenger, HI; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Barchenger, IL.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Norman, Harold (Amanda), and Bob Barchenger; brother-in-law, Jim Roe; and son-in-law, Kenneth Schulte.
Memorials are preferred to the Oliver County Historical Society in Center.
