Ardis Schmautz

Ardis Angeline Schmautz, age 91 passed away on May 11, 2026 at her home in Burnsville, MN surrounded by family.

Ardis was born August 21, 1934 in Mandan, ND to Anton A. and Magdaline (Mae) Fleck. She was raised and educated in Mandan where she graduated from Mandan High School in 1951.

She married the love of her life, Lyle Schmautz on April 9, 1956. They had four daughters; Laurie, Nicki, Penny, and Kathy.

Ardis worked for the Register of Deeds office in Mandan, ND and later worked for the Addiction program.

Ardis enjoyed gardening, shopping, going to the Dairy Queen, playing bingo, coloring, and spending time with family.

Ardis is survived by her four daughters, Laurie (Dan) Baker, Nicki (Kent) Kraft, Penny (Bill) Ferguson, and Kathy (Nathan) Wright. Five grandchildren, Mandy (Brad) Fleck, Laci (Troy) Matthiesen, Dustin (Brittany) Baker, Emily (Austin)Bell, and Ashley (Markas)Dahl. Great-grandchildren; Brodey Matthiesen, Parker (Alonna) Matthiesen, Portia Matthiesen (preceded in death), Paige Weiss, Taylor Fleck, Lukas & Kolbe Baker, Atlas, Aspen & Apollo Bell, Brooks & Louie Dahl, and one sister, Diane Beckler.

Ardis was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Lyle, her parents; two brothers, James F. Fleck (Maxine), Anthony “Tony” Fleck; one infant brother, Arnold; & brother-in-law, Ralph Beckler.

A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home in Mandan.  Burial will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
