May 12, 1923 — September 23, 2015

Anna Kottsick, 92, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at the Sanford off Sunset Continuing Care Center in Mandan.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at 10:00 am at First Lutheran Church in Mandan with Rev. Lee Herberg officiating.

Anna was born May 12, 1923, in New Salem, ND to William and Elsie (Kukuk) Heid. She grew up in the New Salem area and graduated from New Salem High School. Upon graduation she moved to Mandan, where she met Ben “Bennie” Kottsick. They were married on September 16, 1945, in New Salem. They made their home on Ben’s family farm, south of Mandan, where the two farmed together for many years.

Anna loved her yard and tending to her flowers. She took great pride in her flowers and really enjoyed the time spent keeping everything looking good, especially after retirement from farming. She also had a love for baking; her Twisties and Kolaches were well renowned within the family. Family members would always look forward to their birthday as they knew that Anna would have her special “Twisties” waiting for them. After their retirement, Ben and Anna loved to travel. They were fortunate to visit all 50 states, along with taking a trip to Germany and several cruises. It wasn’t hard to convince them to take a trip with family members. Her most precious times came when she was with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they were so special to her. Anna will be deeply missed by all.

Anna is survived by her daughters, Cheryllyn Schmidt, Rosalie Svihla, and Peggy (Jake) Hertz, all of Mandan; her grandchildren, Marcy (Dean) Blotsky, Greta (Rocky) Schlosser, Benjamin (Katie) Hertz, and Jacob (Miranda) Hertz, and a granddaughter-in-law, Jessica Schmidt, all of Mandan; her great grandchildren, Whitney and Hayden Blotsky, Makenzie and Garett Schmidt, Regan and Gracie Schlosser, Madison and Logan Hertz, and Caleb and Carson Hertz. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Fuchs, Omaha, NE; brother, Ron Heid, New Salem, ND; sisters-in-law, Colleen Heid, New Salem, ND, and Jean Kottsick, Bismarck, ND; and a brother-in-law, Wallace Conitz, Billings, MT.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; sons-in-law, Elgie Svihla and Donald Schmidt; grandson, Dean Schmidt; brother, Wilbert Heid; sister, Mildred Conitz; brother-in-law, Oliver Fuchs; and a sister-in-law, Sandy Heid.
