Hildegard “Gardy” was born April 15, 1929 in Fallon to Monson and Anna (Friesz) Schmidt. She was raised and educated in Fallon and later attended nursing school. On June 15, 1948, Gardy married Fabian Paul in Fallon. They made their home in Mandan where they raised their children. Gardy enjoyed playing Pinochle and Bingo and listening to Polka music. She was a great cook and loved to bake. She was known for her German potato salad, snowballs, and her homemade apple pie from her own apple trees. Gardy also enjoyed canning Fabian’s garden produce. She worked as a cook and waitress at the sales ring and also painted houses. Her greatest enjoyment came from time spent with her family, especially her grandkids.
Blessed to have shared her life are three children, Frank (Jane) Paul, Phoenix, AZ, Larry (Karen) Paul, Casa Grande, AZ, and Cherie (Mike) Jensen, Mandan; eight grandchildren, Chris and Bryan Paul, Jeriad, Jayson, and Jessieca Paul, Jeremy Cargile, Ric Jensen, and Nikki Luther; nine great grandchildren, Jackson Luther, Raymon and Kathryn Jensen, Flynn and Tanis Paul, Trinity and Tyla Paul, and Katelyn and Jaelyn Paul; two sisters, Rosie (Nick) Paul, Cody, WY and Vina Ott, Yakima, WA; and two brothers, Louis Schmidt and Liborius Schmidt, both of Mandan.
Gardy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fabian, in 2009; son, Allen Paul; sister, Judy Schmidt; and five brothers, Leonard, Leo, Lawrence, Lindy, and Larry.
