DeLoris (Mayer) ObenauerOctober 12, 1928 ~ December 30, 2017 (age 89)
DeLoris Obenauer, 89, formerly of Mandan, died December 30, 2017 in a Kentucky hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church, Mandan, with Rev. Deanna Reikow officiating. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
DeLoris was born on October 12, 1928 in Medina, ND to Robert and Lydia (Moser) Mayer. She was raised on a farm near Medina and attended school in Stutsman County. On May 8, 1949 DeLoris married Emil Obenauer in Medina where they made their home until moving to Jamestown in 1951. In October 1963 their family moved to Yankton, SD until July 1965 when they moved to Mandan. DeLoris was generous and giving of her time and talents. She was a Sunday school teacher, youth fellowship advisor, and was active in the church circle, choir, membership committee, and outreach. She was a Scout and 4-H leader and was active in the Eagles Auxiliary where she served many chairs and offices throughout the years. DeLoris also worked at the Eagles Club in the kitchen, retiring in 1989. Her favorite job and greatest passion was as a seamstress. She opened her own sewing shop in her home in 1956 and made all of her own clothes for many years as well as sewing for many others.
Blessed to have shared her life are her two sons, Allen Obenauer, KY and Barnett Obenauer, Chicago, IL; son-in-law, Ken Herman, Red Lodge, MT; 8 grandchildren, Eric, Michael, Shannon, Brent, Corey, Jordan, Morgan, and Rio; 4 great grandchildren, CayLee, Sadie, Cadence, and Dane; two sisters, Marlina (Richard) Spitzer, MN and Rose Marie (Charles) Simmons, CO; and one sister-in-law, Lucy Mayer.
DeLoris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emil, on February 10, 1995; daughter, Claudette Herman; two grandsons, Alex Kenneweg and Dion Obenauer; one granddaughter, TiAre Nicole Obenauer; and her siblings and their spouses, Lorine (Clarence) Schlecht, Clarence Mayer, Lillian (Reuben) Schlecht, and Darlene (Elmer) Moos.
