Darlene Schwinkendorf was born in Mandan on December 11, 1930 to Edwin and Hilda Schwinkendorf.  She graduated from Mandan High School in 1948 and then attended Bismarck Junior College.  Darlene married Kenneth Porsborg on September 10, 1950 in Mandan.  They enjoyed 62 years of life together until Ken’s death in 2012.  Her life revolved around raising her four children.

Darlene spent her life caring for others.  She was active in her church. This included singing in the choir and at multiple weddings and funerals over the years.  She was also active in many other benevolent organizations.  She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter AK for 56 years and was president from 1975-1977 and 1988-1989.  She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.  Most of all, she cared for her family.  Her cooking talent was well known, as was her skill and capacity for entertaining. Another talent was bridge, which she played regularly and won many prizes locally.

Darlene is survived by her children, Patti Maher of Fargo, Debra Porsborg of Mandan, Diana (Jess) Nelson of Mandan and Scott (Julie) Porsborg of Mandan; grandchildren, Angela Maher, Fargo, Leah Wohlsdorf, Menomonie WI, Kent (Rebecca Harbage) Schlosser, Helena, Gina Wohlsdorf, Denver, Kara (Brent) Knodle, Minneapolis and Nicholas Porsborg, New York City; great-grandchildren Owen Wald, Fargo, and newborn twins Jack and Mikah Knodle, Minneapolis, who she was thrilled to be able to hold before she passed.  She is also survived by three sisters in law, Carol Schwinkendorf of Scottsdale, Helen Tracy of Bismarck, and Marilyn (Gary) Litt of Fargo.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth; her parents and her brothers, Myron Schwinkendorf and Ronald Schwinkendorf.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be provided to P.E.O. Chapter AK (Mandan), to support the Program for Continuing Education for Women Fund.
